You *should* be pleased: ‘The Search’ is one of the greatest books I have read (which must number in the tens of thousands); and is incredibly skillfully written. Knowing now how you write, and how you put the book together, this does not surprise me one jot: and I cannot imagine you putting your name on anything less than perfect. I am just so glad that you found a publisher obviously sympathetic to your aims; and that you got the chance to tell your fascinating and gripping tale (even if living through it has been – and continues to be – so very tough at times). Thank you, Paul: you are an inspiration.

What Sally said. I definitely restacked this (I tagged someone and they replied!) but it's not showing that I did. So I thought I'd tell you! I really do love your book and I hope it keeps finding more readers.

Oh, you have a Scout too! Mine is 17 now. Time with her is precious. She used to be strong, fit and fearless. She climbed Helvellyn several times, via Striding Edge (once wearing a GoPro!) and wild camped on long coast to coast hikes with my (now-ex) husband. Her life is very different now but I am still so proud of her.

I’m always recommending (or giving) your book to people. And the launch was the best I’ve ever been to. You manage to B pack in so many issues in a clear way too. I think it’s a WONDRRFUL book. And this analysis is helpful to me as a memoir writer too. Thankyou dear Paul.

Paul, if I write anything half-as-good as you I will be well pleased. I began to think about writing an autobiography of sorts at the end of Christmas 2010, at the behest of our grand-daughters and I have since posted numerous pieces but have yet to thread them together (see mywembley.blogspot.com).

At 66 back then too many of those knowing me would still have been about, but at 81, as I am now, there are far fewer to offend, which I am happy about. I have already decided personal names will be fictionalised, except when what I say is about someone who was in the public domain, but places and events will be factual if not the dates.

Your post has reassured me that I am on the right track. Thank you for that. Fond regards Robert 🐰
